Location: Logroño

Programme:

"Several studies have explored the complex relationship between moderate consumption of wine and health. In fact, this relationship has been the focus of a long standing series of scientific meetings in the last years, starting in Udine (Italy) in 1996, and followed by the Meetings held in Palo Alto, California (USA) organized by the New York Academy of Science in 2001, Santiago (Chile) in 2002, Stellenbosch (South Africa) in 2005, Bordeaux (France) in 2007, Friuli (Italy) in 2010 and Sydney (Australia) in 2013.

Now we are welcoming you to a new Meeting that is held in Logroño, la Rioja (Spain) the days 16th, 17th and 18th of February, 2017. This new Conference will provide an opportunity to bring together world experts for a stimulating exchange of scientific information and ideas on the impacts of wine consumption on human health. We will explore the epidemiological evidence of the effect of wine as a unique alcoholic beverage and we will analyze the mechanisms by which wine may exert its beneficial effects on health and that add plausibility to the results obtained in cohort studies.

We will also would like provide deeper insight into how specific molecules present in grapes and wine have biological activities that may be beneficial or harnessed for health. Sociological outcomes of the use and abuse of wine, and hence public health priorities will also be presented for debate and discussion.

It is envisaged that these exchanges will contribute to the evidence base for public policy setting, provide direction for new research efforts into the health effects of wine, and offer opportunities for international collaborations. We need to promote new research in this fields, since, many more questions remain unanswered than answered at present. Your support and active engagement to the Wine and Health 2017 Meeting should be a vital contributor to the success not only of this year’s event but to continuing Wine and Health Meetings into the future.”
